Torrejón de Ardoz was founded at the beginning of the 12th century as a result of a fortification that the inhabitants of Alcalá had to build in order to gain a foothold in the area. Throughout the Middle Ages, Torrejón depended on Alcalá, until in the 16th century when its 214 residents decided to become independent. They established the town in 1554. The historical sites and areas of cultural interest that can currently be visited include: the Big House, the Church of Saint John the Baptist and Aldovea Palace.
