Arganda del Rey is 27 kilometres to the southeast of Madrid and is a charming blend of history, tradition, nature and modernity. Almost 50% of the region lies in the Southeast Regional Park: a protected environmental area and idyllic setting with its nature and fauna. In addition, the town has historical monuments, notably St. John the Baptist Church, Bishop Sancho Granado’s House with its typically baroque façade, the home of Cervantes' mother; the Casa del Rey or “King’s House”; and the old steam-coal locomotive that runs between La Poveda station and Laguna del Campillo lake on weekends in spring and autumn. Arganda also has a strong wine tradition and boasts the Vinos de Madrid Designation of Origin.

The advantage of living in Arganda is that all Madrid’s cultural attractions, restaurants and bars are less than half an hour away by car and 1 hour by public transport. Theatre, musicals, concerts, shopping, cinemas, sporting events, museums and restaurants: whatever your tastes or interests, there is something for everyone.

In addition to the capital, there are some really interesting getaways in the Community of Madrid. Spend the day at San Lorenzo del Escorial, where you can visit the impressive monastery and feel like you’ve gone back to the 16th century. Do you like Versailles and its gardens? Visit the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso, in nearby Segovia and travel back in time to Louis XVI’s era.
